Best travel shoes | Merrell Moab Rover

2 Mins read

I’m a big fan of light travel. This means making tough choices when it comes to packing. And one of the biggest choices you have to make is:  What shoes to bring? Shoes are not only necessary, but they take up by far the most room in your luggage. So if you are going carry-on only for a lengthy trip, what do you do?  Jam a sporty pair into the luggage and wear your fancier ones? Buy shoes when you get there? Well we have started looking for the perfect pair of travel shoes for various scenarios. If you’re going on a trip where you know you are going to be doing a good mix of both urban exploration and nature hiking, you need to check out the Merrell Moab Rovers.

These hiking shoes are awesome for a couple reasons. One, they are durable as hell. Merrell doesn’t skimp on anything in the construction of these shoes. Amazing Vibram soles, breathable but water-repellent leather, and a super comfortable EVA midsole make these a great choice for active folks. But the main thing I like about them is that they tone down the “hike-iness” of them. I’m not sure why companies insist on manufacturing hiking shoes that look like something out of an alien ship… But Merrell has done a good job of designing the Moab Rovers to look a little more like a normal everyday pair of shoes. Particularly the black version. They could pass as just a nice set of leather shoes in a pinch. This means that if you opt to on your trip, that you will be covered for most scenarios on the road. And that’s a plus in my books. Keep those bags light!

They also make a boot version of the Moab Rovers for those of you looking for an even more intense trip. And if the look of these is still just a bit too utilitarian, we also really love the look of these Clarks that are super durable but could literally be worn to work on an everyday basis. Not so much for full on hiking, but these will get the job done on a Europe or Japan trip for sure.
